Nathan Fake Drowning In A Sea Of Love

This is some of the most pure electronic music you will ever hear. This record is flawless and brilliant. It is packed full of emotion and originality. Warbly, fuzzy layers of synths that mimic the guitar haze of Kevin Shields, and simple beats that anchor beautiful melodies all the way through. A refreshing accomplishment by a shining new star.

Celebration Celebration

I only just discovered this record, even though it's been out for some time. It's murky, claustrophobic NYC art rock that sort of just floats and drifts. The singer is in the realm of Kate Bush, Karen O, etc. Her vocal range is all over the place, in a good way. Her voice is used almost more like another instrument rather than a lead singer. It's produced by Dave Sitek from TV On The Radio, and members of TV On The Radio play instruments on the whole album. It's mostly driven by shuffling drums and vintage organs. It's a solid, satisfying experience from beginning to end, and it grows on you. I'm glad I gave it a chance.

TV On The Radio Return To Cookie Mountain

It seemed like this album would never drop! Finally, it did. And finally, I'm writing about it. It has lived up to all my expectations. But at first it didn't. I was aching for some anthems like "Staring At The Sun" and "Young Liars" and there really aren't any anthems on this album. But it's beyond catchy from beginning to end, in a different way - in the same way that you can find yourself humming along a tiny loop from a Radiohead song. Parts nestle into your brain - permanently. TVOTR are a perfectly modern band. They're doing things their own way, culling from diverse influences, and adding their own special touches and flourishes, making something new, and all their own. The feel of the album is almost like a smoked out inverse of Pet Sounds. A digital/analog hybrid swarm of delightful sounds. It's heart is of the earth, not the sky. It's firmly rooted and has a gravitational force that pulls in influences from Eno to Afrobeat and warps it all into a swirling, fractal fog that makes perfect sense. At it's core, this album has a pulse that binds everything together. TVOTR is band with a true, unique identity and recognizable sound all their own. Return To Cookie Mountain is phenomenal. A new classic has arrived.

The EarlyMan Scene EP

This is pretty good. Some futuristic hip hop space funk similar to Sa-Ra, Dilla, and Spacek. Lush beats, off-center claps, and sparkling synths. A mellow treat.
